Kundapur, April 21: One person killed and three others were injured in a road accident on the evening of Sunday, April 20. The accident occurred on national highway 66 at Kirimanjeshwar.
Two vehicles, a Maruti Suzuki Ritz car, and a truck, were involved in this accident. Mujeeb (42), who was in the car, lost his life. While his wife, Naseema (35), and her two children suffered injuries.
Mujeeb was a resident from Malpe near Udupi. It is learnt that he had been to Golihole near Byndoor along with wife and children for inviting a relative for the marriage function of one of his kins. The incident is said to have happened when he was returning to Malpe, near Kirimanjeshwar a truck which was moving towards Honnavar from Mangalore, rammed into the car at great speed. The driver of the truck was trying to overtake another vehicle and the truck lost control deviating to extreme right, this caused the accident. The right portion of the car was badly damaged in the accident.
Mujeeb, who had been severely injured in the accident, was taken to a private hospital in Manipal. However, he did not respond to treatments, and was declared dead within hours. Naseema and her two children are undergoing treatment in a private hospital in the town.
A case was registered in this connection at Byndoor police station.
