Police department tightens security measures for LS polls

Mangalore, April 16: City Police Commissioner R Hithendra said that a special security arrangements has been taken up in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi-Chikmagalur and Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituencies for the polling to be scheduled on April 17.

Addressing media at Mangalore Police Commissionerate on April 15, Tuesday, he said that there are 158 Naxal affected polling stations in three constituencies. The department has also identified a total 417 polling stations as hyper sensitive and 1279 as sensitive polling stations, which will be checked under the leadership of SP.

Speaking on the occasion, SP Dr Sharanappa said that under the limits of DK constituency, there are 62 Naxal affected areas, 112 hyper sensitive booths and 227 sensitive booths out of 954 booths.

SP said that along with the police officials and personnel from the district, the department has deployed four DySPs, 14 inspectors, 29 Sis, 50 ASIs, 498 Head constables/police constables and 308 Home Guards from other states for election duty.

Apart from it, BSF, KLSAP, KSRP battalions and SAP from Maharashtra in district and four additional KSRP battalions will be deployed in Naxal affected areas, he added.
