City girl brutally stabbed for refusing to love and marry

Mangalore, April 23: In an unprecedented incident, a case of stabbing a girl by her boy friend has been reported in the city on April 22, Monday. The girl who allegedly refused the demand of a love to a boy and marries him was stabbed by the disheartened lover.

The injured Savita (name changed) aged 26, a native of Belthangady has suffered injuries to her hand and head, was admitted to city’s hospital for treatment.

Sources said, accused Umakanth has been absconding since then, was working in a city’s  hotel, came to know the girl about six months back and used to meet her number of times thereafter.

The girl had completed nursing education and was working in a city’s hospital and had been staying with one of her relatives, it said.

On fateful day of attack, which was on April 25, Monday as the girl was walking towards her work place, Umakanth approached her on the way all of a sudden and declared his love for her. He asked her to express her immense and unconditional love for him and promise to marry him.

When she refused, he stabbed her in her head and hand, before fleeing away from the scene.The girl, who collapsed on the spot and was carried to a hospital by an auto rickshaw driver.

Pandeshwar police personnel arrived to the spot and a case of murder attempt was registered against a boy, whose permanent address yet to be traced.
