Oil Companies cannot be solely blamed for Perne accident: Says Moily

Mangalore, April 19: M.Veerappa Moily-Union minister for petroleum and Natural Gas visited on April 18,Thursdays, the site of the ghastly accident on NH 75, near Uppinangadi, occurred on April 9, Tuesday that left 10dead and many injured.

While interacting with the media persons Moily said it was not right to make oil companies alone held responsible for the LPG tanker accident, even transport and insurance firms are equally responsible, he said.

He further said oil companies are discussing how best they could help families of victims and injured persons on humanitarian grounds. He had a word of appreciation for Dakshina Kannada District administration for expediting rehabilitation work.

Meanwhile Kodimbadi Anil Shetty-President, Perne Anila Durantha Sanstastara Parihara Samiti threatened the Oil companies like HPCL to disburse the compensation within twelve days.

Anil, besides his many demands like jobs for family members of the victims, assurance on providing education to the children of victims also urged oil companies that a compensation of Rs twenty five lakhs to the families of the deceased and Rs 12 lakhs to injured. If oil companies fail to meet the deadline, samiti will launch an intense protest, he said.

He also informed that the samiti has plans to raise donation up to Rs 30 lakhs from the general public in order to help the survivors of the tragedy.
