State Govt to launch a scheme to provide rooftop solar units: D K Shivakumar

Mangalore, Mar 3: Minister for Energy D K Shivakumar said that state government had decided to launch a scheme to provide rooftop solar units to 89 beneficiaries on a pilot basis in Mangalore city.

Speaking at a press meet held at MESCOM head office on Mar 2, Sunday till the exams are over, would be no load-shedding of electricity during morning and evening hours in the state.

Speaking on solar units, he said that a total of 89 beneficiaries can get the solar units for a subsidy of 30 percent from central government and 20 percent from state government under this scheme.

He also said that in the coming days, the government will bring four districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga, which has been supplied electricity from Mescom under a new Karnataka State Electrical Inspectorate.

As per the recent budget, the farmers will get 7 hours electricity as subsidy of Rs 6,200 crore has been reserved. The government has even ordered all Zilla Panchayats, municipalities and corporations to sanction electricity for the purpose of drinking water within 24 hours of filing the application.

The government will sign an agreement to purchase 450 mw of power from Damodar valley project under the concept of ‘one nation one grid’, he informed.
