Udupi;Feb 25: Under the aegis of District Panchayat,Udupi,Village Panchayat Amasebail and National service programme (NSS) unit government first grade college,Shankaranarayana,’awareness week about cleanliness and drinking water’ programme was held in Amasebail village panchayat jurisdiction between Feb 20 to Feb 25.
Amasebail village in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district at the foothills of Western Ghat is very God-forsaken village region.
Too far away from the district headquarters, though it has got the entire basic infrastructure, this region is too poor and lagging behind in the construction and usage of toilets. Here 646 families are without toilets. In this regard, District Panchayat, has organized ‘Awareness Camp’ under Nirmal Bharat’ campaign programme in Amasebail, last year in the month of August-2013. But it was observed that only 134 families have constructed toilets under ‘Nirmal Bharat’campaign.
Taking this seriously, district panchayat and local village panchayat, as a part of ‘Awareness about cleanliness and drinking water week’ awareness about construction of toilets, its usage and importance of pure drinking water usage was given by visiting each and every house in the jurisdiction of Amasebail village panchayat from Feb 20 to Feb 25.
On Feb 22, one day programme was hosted for the construction of toilets in association with Shankarnarayana first Grade College’s National service programme unit. During the occasion, by visiting each house in the jurisdiction of Amasebail’s Jaddinagadde, pit for toilet was created by using beneficiaries of the scheme. By taking N.M.R under Employment Guarantee Scheme, construction of the toilets was started for around 36 families.
During the occasion, awareness about the benefits to the family and environment by the construction of toilets and its usage and about the subsidy from the government for the construction of toilets was given by the students of N.S.S. Information was also given about the usage of toilets, personal hygiene and about the cleanliness of drinking water to the children of Jaddinagadde government junior elementary school.
By playing street play in the major streets of Amasebail by the N.S.S students, a comprehensive awareness was given to public about the benefits of constructing toilets to the family and environment, about subsidy receiving from the government for the construction of toilets and about the importance of pure drinking water usage
Village Panchayat president Sadashiva Shetty and all the members of the village panchayat, taluk panchayat member Naveenchandra Shetty,District panchayat CEO,M.Kangavalli,District panchayat’s assistant project officer Dr.Udaya Shetty,Shankaranarayana first grade college’s N.S.S’s project officer Venkatram Bhat,Smt.Jyothi,assistant camp officers like Mahesh,Ravichandra,Keerthi Kumar Shetty,Preethi Shetty,Suchita,District panchayat’s consultants Sudhir A.K,Raghunath,Kundapur taluk panchayat’s technical assistant engineer Vinayak,village panchayat development officer Gopala Devadiga and staff,Kshetra Dharmastala village development projects committee members,Reprresentatives,Bharat Nirman volunteers were participated in this programme.
65 students of Shankaranarayana first Grade College conducted Shramadhana and street plays.
