Manipal; Feb 23: The tragedy of Endo-sulfane, which has been troubling for the last three decades in Kasaragod district of Kerala and in most part of the Dakshina Kannada, now it is spread in most parts of Udupi distict, which was confirmed from the survey. Therefore it was demanded in the massive protest organized by endo-sulfane affected people in front of Manipal district administrator’s office that after conducting examination of all the affected people from all the villages of the district, eligible, available facilities should be provided after identifying genuine affected people.
This protest was organized jointly by Karnataka state disabled and parent’s vokkoota, Udupi unit. A memorandum comprising of their some demands was submitted to Udupi legislator, DC in the conference of Endo-sulfane affected people and their parents and urged to give package as per the order of state high court for the endo-sulfane affected people.
Further through Karnataka Cashew development Corporation, around in 74 village’s Cashew Farms, Endo-Sulfane carboril and mono krotopas were continuously sprayed from 1980 to 2005. As a result of this around 2156 people in the district fell sick in different ways. This was revealed in the preliminary investigation conducted by the department of health.
The examination of ill patients of around 35 insecticides sprayed villages and including 8 villages without the spray, a total of 45 village’s jurisdiction, examination is being conducted by the medical expert.
Apart from selected 45 villages and if the affected patients from the surrounding villages come to camp, without photos have been sent back by medical officer saying they did not receive any order from DC to issue certificate, alleged committee authorites.
Therefore in Udupi district’s 267 village’s patients of different ways, by conducting a medical examination, along with identity card, all the available facilities and pension should be provided from the government, said G.N.Nagaraj, vice president of the vedhike and social scientist.
Endo-sulfane affected people are more in Kundapur taluk’s Sagur,Shirur,Yadady-Mathydy,Aaloor,Kundabaramdhadi,Kambadakone,Kalthod and some places about 75% deficiency has been observed. For them, special hospital at taluk level and continous treatment needed. Likewise according to court order affected people with less than 40% deficiency also should be given monthly pension, demanded Manjunatha Hebbar, president of Udupi district unit.
The facilities which are available to the endo-sulfane affected people of the Dakshina Kannada district should also be provided to Udupi districts affected people. For the protection of affected people, centres should be opened in villages.Endo-sulfane affected people BPL ration card, free treatment, free houses to be provided, urged honorary president Venkatesh Koni.
When Pramod Madhwaraj, legislator arrived to the protest meet, a memorandum was submitted. He assured the protestors that if a delegation along with Endo-sulfane affected people and their parents come to Bangalore within couple of days, after meeting health minister and minister Umashree, their demands can be brought to the attention of the government, he said.
DC M.T.Reju, who visited the place and received the memorandum and promised the protestors that suitable action, will be taken in this regard.
