Udupi;Feb 16: Brahmavar Bandh,organized by Sangha Parivar condemning the arrest of Udupi district Gorakshak ‘s prominent leader Dinesh Mendon,Hiriyadka on the basis of complaint lodged by the accused in connection with uploading the obscene pictures of a girl, turns violent damaging police jeeps, shops and minister’s office.
According to the sources, hundreds of VHP-BD activists under the leadership of Suprasad Shetty, district VHP president and BJP’s Vilas Nayak after forcefully made the shop owners to close their shutters starting from Akashavani circle to old bus stand, fish market, Holy family complex and then left towards bus stand. There they forcefully attempted to close Sudhesh Travels shop belonging to, Godwin Menzes, a resident of Indira Nagar and a congress activists.
It was also said that when Godwin did not agree to close to his shop, BD activists damaged the glass of his shop by throwing stones. After that they threw stones to the Brahmavar police Jeep and damaged the glass from behind. It was also reported that they threw stones at cloth shops.
Hundreds of congress activists also gathered at the place after they come to know about the matter. Due to this, situation became tense. Immediately police resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd.K.Jayaprakash Hegde, MP, who came to the spot, consoled the congress activists and assured them that action will be taken against the miscreants.
Unappetizing response to Bandh:
There was a luke-warm response to the Brahmavar Bandh called by VHP and BD.Though some of the shops were closed in the morning, after that they opened and did their business as usual. Rickshaws and buses were plying as usual.Udupi district police commissioner Dr.Boralingayya, Udupi DYSP Dr.Prabhudev Mane arrived to Brahmavar and examined the situation of the incident. Brahmavar circle inspector Arun Nayak, police station authority Girish Kumar took the responsibility of security.
Condemnation by BJP:
Condemning the step taken by the police to arrest the innocent people for the unsolicitated behavior committed by somebody else and under congress rule adopting restraint policy.
Karkala legislator V.Sunil Kumar, former Muzrahi minister Kota Shreenivas Poojary,former legislator Raghupati Bhatt,Lalaji.R.Mendon,BJP district president Vikramarjuna Hegde fiercely condemn the incident.
Legal suit against Suprasad and 20 pothers including Vilas:
A legal suit has been filed in Brahmavar police station against VHP district president Suprasad Shetty, BJP leader Vilas Nayak, and 20 others including BD convener Sunil K.R in connection with pelting stones at Brahmavar Police Jeep and shops.
Sources also said that miscreants, who came to shopping mall of Malpe Bailakere Yasin, near Brahmavar bus stand in Panchayat building, broke the shops glass, pulled and damaged the cloths, resulting an estimated loss of Rs 30,000.Besides they also attacked salesman Thousif, stated in their complaint.
According to the complaint lodged by Brahmavar police station authority Girish Kumar, a group of around 20 people, who did not allow police jeep to move forward to perform their duties near Brahmavar Sudhesh transport office and damaged the Jeep’s glass by throwing stone, resulting an estimated loss of Rs 5000.Likewise Godwin also lodged a complaint stating that they threw stones at Sudhesh Transport office and damaged. A total of three separate complaints have been registered in Brahmavar police station.
So far nobody has been arrested in connection with this incident. In this regard inquiry is being conducted. Now in Brahmavar peace has been limping back to normal. However tight police security has been provided said Udupi district police commissioner Dr.Boralingayya.
Protest by legislators to arrest the accused:–
Pramodh Madhwaraj, legislator who arrived to Brahmavar after coming to know about the incident protested along with other congress activists for the arrest of the culprits, who have called for the Bandh, created disharmony among the people and spoiled the peace in the region in front of Brahmavar police station.
He also said that there is no connection between the arrest of accused in Hiriyadka and Brahmavar Bandh. This is completely politically motivated, he alleged. Congress activists fiercely condemned the BD activist’s attitude of pelting stones and damaging shops, Police jeep and by forcefully closing the shops.
Bloc congress president Rajesh Shetty, Birthi, prominent leaders like Janardhan Tonse, Yathish Karkera and Ananda Poojary were present in the protest.
Similarly VHP and BD activists protested condemning police lathi charge in front of Brahmavar circle inspector’s office.
