Mangalore, Feb 11: Several doctors, medical students, and interns took part in the protest march on Feb 11, Tuesday morning condemning the assault on a doctor at Yenepoya University premises at Deralakatte.
Addressing the protestors Dr Najeeb Ismail said that the complaint filed on sexual assault on female patient by Dr Niyaz is a conspiracy to tarnish his image and disturb the peace in region. In fact Dr Niyaz had also stopped another person from video recording the medical examination of an outpatient.
Dr Prakash Harishchandra, colleague of Dr Niyaz said that the girl was suffering from respiratory problems and was taken for the special examination at the medicine unit.
As per the medical rules, Kusuma, a nurse at the hospital was present in the room during examination and is the witness of whole incident.
Later the girl complained of a blister on her chest, hence Dr Niyaz had to place stethoscope to examine the girl who was fully dressed. When the person standing behind the doctor began to record video of her examination, Doctor had even stopped him, immediately a group of strangers entered the hospital and assaulted him. This incident is an insult to the entire medical community.
It is learnt that Dr Mohammed Niyaz, currently pursuing second year MD at Hospital was charged with sexual assault on a female patient and was thrashed by a members of Women’s organization.
