Brahmavar: Sugar factory in the hands of farmers; disbursement of balance amount to farmers, workers

Brahmavar; Feb 09: After nearly eight years of struggle, balance amount of Brahmavar sugar factory’s workers and farmers, who supplied sugar canes to the factory finally have been distributed. Now the future of the company will be decided by the farmers only. Only after consulting with farmers, the future course of action will be decided.

In order to clear the pending amount in crores of rupees of the Brahmavar’s Dakshina Kannada co-operative sugar factory, which closed in 2006, the state government led by Siddaramaih, has released a soft loan of Rs 12 crore and from this amount, workers and farmers were paid their balance amount through cheques in the special programme held in SMS community Bhavan.

Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and district in charge, K.Jayaprakash Hegde and legislator Pramodh Madhwaraj were present on the occasion.

 On Feb 09, Sunday, minister, legislator and MP have distributed part of the pending amount of Rs 1.98 crore of 3200 farmers, who supplied sugar canes in 2004 and 215 worker’s salary plus allowances of Rs 6.15 crores.

The man who took special interest to put pressure on state government to release the grant, union minister and former president of the factory Oscar Fernandez will be arriving to Brahmavar for this purpose and will distribute cheques to remaining people on Feb 09 as per the announcement of Jayasheela Shetty, current management committee’s president.

The company has prepared 11 positive points and 5 negative points for the continuation of the factory. Once the entire pending amount is cleared, decision about the future of the company will be decided only after consulting with farmers, representatives and by convening expert’s meeting, he suggested.

He further said that after government has released Rs 12 crore to clear the balance amount of farmers and workers, now I got little bit of courage to talk about. Siddaramaih has fulfilled his commitment which he made in last year in Malpe for the resuscitation of the factory, said Jayasheela Shetty

Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and district in charge said in his speech that the Varahi irrigation programme, which started along with factory has not yet completed even after 35 years.

The union government has solved the problem of 68 acres of land from 128 acres of Deemd forest, which caused obstacles for the project.It is hoped that Varahi irrigation programme will be completed very soon.

In the ceremony Dr.M.T.Reju, DC, district panchayat’s CEO M.Kanagavalli, district panchayat former presidents B.Bhujanga Shetty were present. On Feb 09, Sunday union minister Oscar Fernandez will participate in the cheque distribution programme at around 11.00 am in the morning and distribute the cheques to farmers and workers.

    each and every farmers had work hard to grow those sugarcane in the fields.now atleast we got a relief that we got some payment in difficut times.village adve..udupi district.
