Mangalore, Feb 7: Minister for tourism RV Deshpande inaugurated Bird Aviary set up at Dr Shivarama Karantha Biological Park, Pilikula Nisargadhama on Feb 7, Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government had planned to invest Rs. 73000 crores in the tourism sector in the next ten year. This plan will also create job opportunities for the youths.
The aviary has been developed in 25,000 sqft area at a cost of Rs 40 lakh, will attract large number of visitors in the coming days. The 200-ft-long, 50-ft-high and 150-ft-wide aviary has been constructed in a dome-shaped chain-link mesh. The bird lovers can walk on the aviary to have closer look of large variety of birds.
The aviary comprises of large ponds and waterfall, running stream and fruit plants. The birds can fly and move around the aviary freely.
Aquatic birds like pelican, cormorant, egret, whistling teals, heron, ibis and ducks will be brought to the aviary. Other bird species including quails, pheasants, crakes, lapwings, woodpeckers, barbets, orioles, bulbuls, babblers, flycatchers, drongo, mynah, magpie, lora, doves, pigeons, parakeets, cuckoos, swifts, kingfishers, bee- eaters, hornbills, sunbirds and sparrows will also be added to attract bird lovers.
