Mangalore, Feb 6: Former MLAand Freedom fighter Dr Sanjeevanath Aikala (93) passed away at his residence at Karnadu, Markuja on February 6, Thursday.
Aikala who was born in 1921 to a Aikala Bhava family had done his schooling at Niddodi Sathyanaryana Higher Primary School and Mulky Government Model High School.
Aikala joined freedom movement after being inspired by a speech by Mulky Karnad Sadashiva at the Gandhi Maidan during the freedom struggle in 1936.
In the year 1940 he went to Bellary to pursue Ayurveda studies with Pandith Tharanath. Later in 1961 he joined Jayaprakash Narayana’s Socialist Party and became the MLA giving a memorable serive to the society.
He is survived by his two sons and daughter.
Aikala’s funeral wwas held at Mulky Hindu Crematorium on February 7, Friday.
