Kundapur: Disbursement of Rs 14 crore loans to women members of Beejady Fishermen’s Association @ 3% interest

Kundapur:Feb 05: After inaugurating the Beejady fishermen’s association’s Rs 14 crore loan  at 3% interest disbursement programme to the women members of the association organized jointly by Beejady fishermen’s co-operative Society, Corporation bank,Udupi and Mangalore, district’s co-operative fish sale federation, Mangalore in Koteshwara Vadiraja Kalyana Mantap,K.Jayaprakash Hegde,MP said in his address that discussion at government level was held to give loan up to Rs 2 lac at zero per cent interest even for fishermen like that of agricultural farmers.

Central governmet also implemented some programmes to encourage fishing trade.There is lot of reformations has to come starting from fishing trade to point of fish sale like construction of neat and well equipped fish market, sale of fish in ice filled glass box like that discussion was held with union agricultural department to give more emphasis for fishing trade, he said.

He further said that obtained approval for break water construction. As more and more ports are being built, the pressure on fishing trade will be increased and it will be convenient for fishing as well. As ports are available nearby, it will become easier for fisherwomen to sell their fish, he added.

He further said that by giving loan at lower interest to fisherwomen, will help for the welfare of the women. The bank have already found reliability. The loan amount of Rs.14 crore at the rate of 3% has been handed over to Beejady fishermen Sangha.

Legislator Halady Shreenivasa Shetty has presided over the programme.Yashpal Suvarna,president,Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district’s co-operative federation of fish delivered an introductory speech.E.D.B.K Vastav,corporation bank, Mangalore H.O,said in his address that fishing trade should grow as one of the prime business, export transaction should increase and then it will create employment opportunities. When the loan is being utilized efficiently, properly, then it would become meaningful, he said.

Ganapati.T.Shriyan, president of district panchayat standing committee while speaking said that in the past, Rs 12 crore loans was given to 240 associations in the jurisdiction of fishermen Sangha and 100% has been returned back and now Rs 14 crore loan will be given to 277 Sanghas.

Fishing businessman Ananda.C.Kundar,taluk panchayat member Laxmana Kundar,taluk panchayat member Manju Billawa,Beejady village panchayat president Vishalakshi Shedthi, Ravindra Hebbar of Corporation bank,Mangalore,A.G.M.V.N.Hegde, fishing trade vice president M.D.Prasad,Beejady fishermen’s co-operative society’s president B.Prakash Poojary,vice president Ramesh Suvarna Golibettu,MogaveeraYuva Sanghatane district president Sadananda Balkur,Koteshwara Shree Kotilingeshwara temple’s organizing committee president Prabhakara Shetty were present.

Udaya Kanchan Gopady renditioned prayer, Manjunath Kundar Chatrabettu welcomed, Shivaram K.M hosted the programme and Ramesh Kanchan proposed vote of thanks.
