Moodbidri; Feb 02: An incident of lorry carrying hay caught fire due to electrical wire touch was reported from Alangar on Feb 01, Saturday late evening.
According to the sources, a lorry belonging to Reeta Transport of Kashipatna in Belthangadi taluk loaded with hay was coming from Belvai towards Moodbidri got in touch with electrical wire in front of Alangar Holy Rosary Hospital and caught fire suddenly and created a panic in the area among the people for some time.
As the amount of fire was intensified, the scared people brought the water from hospital and tried to douse the fire. Then the fire brigade personnel arrived and tried to extinguish the fire but as the water was got over in the tank of the fire engine, local people had to fetch water in water tankers to douse the fire and finally could succeed in dousing the fire after heavy battle.
Due to the incident, the lorry was partly destroyed. As there was a transformer nearby, major casualties were averted. In some places, there was a fire in the wire, locals have doused it.
Moodbidri police have arrived to the place of an incident and conducted an inquiry. People gathered in large number in the place of an incident.
