Udupi; Jan 11: After inaugurating the district farmer’s conference,held on Jan 11,Saturday on behalf of Udupi district Krishi Sangha in Kunjibettu Sharada Mantap,Dr.Reju said in his address that it is possible due to self-reliance by developing agriculture into profitable one.In rural areas people by forming self-help sanghas,with interest if they work,can make re-birth of agriculture.
It is not important question that whether agriculture is profitable?.In the district,food grains are not available like olden days.In district’s four ration shops,boiled rice is not available as per our demand.Agricultural production has collapsed all together,he said.
The measures have been taken for the re-birth of (renovation) 2000 reservoirs in the district.Government is giving maximum support for agriculture.But instead of waiting for only government to renovate reservoirs,engineers only to come,if farmers only take efforts to develop reservoirs,in villages inter-water level can be improved . This will help for the agriculture,he said.
Puttur areca nut megazine’s co-editor Na.Karantha Peraje said in his speech that an imaginary devil of areca nut ban made the farmers a sleepless nights.He alleged that in the back drop of this,there is a deep rooted conspiracy to shake the areca nut culture and to snatch the life of farmers,he said.
He further said that many types of poisons entering in our body through the foods we are consuming daily.For the agricultural crops it is told to use still stronger insecticides but from this only insecticide companies will grow,not agriculture’s life,that will become weak. Therefore in order to be free from poisons,we have to adopt self-dependence path,he informed.
Chief guests like Vijaya bank Udupi regional manager Shalini.S.Shetty,Dugge Gowds,director,Sree Kshetra Dharmasthala gramaabhivriddhi programme Udupi district,spoke in the conference.Ramakrishna Bantakallu,Sangha’s district president has presided over the programme.
Agriculturist Appanna Naika Santhekatte,Shridhara Nayak,Karamballi,Raveendra Naika,K.N.Prasanna Shivapura have been felicitated on the occasion.
Sangha’s secretaryRaveendra Poojary,Gujjarabettu delivered an introductory speech.Shreenivas Ballal,vice president of sangha welcomed the gathering.General secretary Shreenivas Bhat Kudhi approved the report.Venugopala,Bharati Shetty,Devaraja Murthy compered the programme.In the conference modern machines, instruments,agricultural equipments,different types of seeds and plants have been displayed.
