Mangalore, Jan 3, 2013: Pandeshwar police have succeeded in nabbing three inter-state chain snatchers, said police commissioner R Hitendra.
Addressing a press meet held at Commissionerate office on Jan 3, Friday, he said that the trio used to rob chains from women in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kasargod and Shimoga districts.
The arrested are identified as Sayyad Sahil (22), a resident of Paivalike, Uppala, Mohammed Rafeeq (25), a resident of Ruqsana Manzil, Goodinabali, BC Road, and Sadath Ali alias Hamsaraali (20) of Jumadi Gudde, Pudu village, Faringepet. They are also said to be involved in the 23 theft cases took place in various districts.
The police have arrested one on December 28, 2013, while others were arrested later. They have also recovered 450 gram of gold worth Rs 15 lakhs from them. The other two accused Thouseef and Riyaz are absconding.
Reportedly, the arrested Sayyad Sahil was one of the accused in Shimoga robbery case including 11 other kinds, while Sadath Ali was accused in ganja peddling case, house burglary and two wheeler theft cases under the limits of Mangalore South and East police stations and Mohammed Rafeeq is accused in various cases coming under Suratkal police station, Mangalore rural police station, Bajpe station and Mangalore south police stations limit.
The Pandeshwar police inspector Dinkar Shetty and staff nabbed the accused under the guidance of R Hithendra, Dr K V Jagadish, assistant police commissioner, and Pawan Nanjoor, Mangalore south subdivision assistant commissioner.
The police personnel who worked in the arrest operation will be rewarded, he said.
