Mangalore, Dec 30: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily inaugurated the Petroleum Oil and Lubricant berth Number 13 and laid the foundation for Berth No. 18 for container and bulk cargo at New Mangalore Port on Sunday, December 29.
Speaking on the occasion, minister appreciated progress registered by the New Mangalore Port Trust over the past few years under the chairmanship of Dr Tamilvanan.
NMPT Deputy Chairman TSN Murthy said that POL Berth No. 13 is constructed by the contracting agency M/s DBM Geotechnics and Construction Private Limited, Mumbai at an estimated cost of Rs 73.17 crore. This POL berth can cater to vessels of size 1,25,000 DWT and of 280m LOA. It has a capacity of handling cargo to the tune of 57.8 million tons per annum.
While, the Berth number 18 is designed by the same company for a vessel size of 1,25,000 DWT with a maximum LOA 280 m, beam 42 m and depth of 15.1 m. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 137.44 crore.
Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai, MLA JR Lobo and Director of Ministry of Shipping Tarun Jajoria, were present.
