Mangalore, Dec 27: Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary said that the recent incident of kidnap and blackmail of two medical students is condemned.
Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office on Dec 26, Thursday, he said that from few years, Dakshina Kannada districts has witnessed attacks on women. The recent incident took place in Deralakatte is a taint to coastal Karnataka.
He also said that DK is known as the educational hub, where students from foreign countries and other states have been pursuing their education here. But such kind of incidents has created fear among the students and parents.
The effort of Mangalore police is appreciated, who have arrested the accused within 24 hours and MLA U T Khader has taken appropriate measures and hence it is not proper to brand it as communal.
Poojary also said that there are rapists in all religions and every religion must condemn this act. The Indians are known for respecting women and portraying to a mother, but these situations are spoiling the reputation of the country, he said.
He also greeted the people of state with Christmas and New Year wishes.
