Karkala: An old man, who lost the eye-sight blames doctor; Appeal to SP for justice

Karkala; Dec 23: An incident of an old man, who was the part of the eye examination camp, losing his right eye’s sight permanently due to doctor’s mistake has come to light in city’s Jarrygudde.

Mohammad Usman, aged 65, a resident of Jarrygudde was the man, who lost his eye sight.

According to the sources, in the last week of March, 2013, an eye examination camp was organized in taluk’s government hospital. This programme was organized jointly by Udupi’s famous Prasad Netralaya and Karkala taluk’s government hospital.Jarrygudde Mohammad Usman has participated in the camp.

He was told by the doctor, who examined him that a layer has come in the eye, the treatment for the same is available in Prasad eye hospital. As suggested by the doctor, Mohammad Usman went to hospital on March 29th and an emergency surgery was also performed on Mohammad’s eye.

But the man, who was discharged on April 1st, lost his right eye’s sight permanently. He was noticing injury marks in the white part of the eye and as the days were passing eye was swelling, he recollects his painful days.

Mohammad alleged that the doctor of the Prasad eye hospital, who was supposed to console the man who lost his eye sight, was giving lame excuses that it will be all right in coming days. After all these developments, now he is developed a trouble in  his left eye also due to that surgery and is receiving treatment from Dr.Sandeep Shenoy,near Udupi Kalpana talkies.

Worried mentally and physically Mohammad Usman, tailor by profession is bed ridden now as he was unable to continue his profession. His wife Latheepunnisa and two daughters, who were solely dependent on Mohammad, is now under total confusion and distraught.

His wife Latheepunnisa, who raised a voice against injustice happened to her husband, has appealed to district police commissioner on Dec 19, seeking justice.
