Mangalore, Dec 18: Condemning the statement of senior BJP leader Dr Subrahmanian Swamy making a mockery of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Congress workers including MLA JR Lobo protested outside the Circuit House in Mangalore on December 17, Tuesday night.
Subramanian Swamy was here in the city to address a lecture on ‘Current political situation and relevance of Modi’s leadership’ when he mocked the AICC Vice president and said Rahul Gandi is an idiot, had no knowledge about politics and takes cocaine, which suggests that he is a drug addict.”
The programme telecast live on a local channel, triggered protest by angry Congress workers. Congress men who had gathered outside the Circuit House where Swamy was staying demanded an apology from him for the derogatory comments on Rahul.
Youth Congress president Mithun Rai said, “How can a senior BJP leader make a derogatory remark on our party chief, that too without proof? The party members are here after many of us received calls asking whether his claims were true. He must apologize” he said.
On gathering information about the protest, even BJP members came to the spot and soon a minor clash broke out between the Congress and the BJP members.
Cases have been registered by both the parties. The Congress has lodged a complaint at Kadri police station against the derogatory comments of Subrahmanian Swamy.
