U.T. Khader inaugurates the “Arogya – 2013” equipment expo

Mangalore, Dec 17: State Health Minister UT Khader inaugurated Arogya-2013, the first healthcare equipment expo to be organised in Coastal Karnataka on Monday, December 16.

The three-day event is being held at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre.

Speaking on the occasion minister said that “the government aims to provide sophisticated health and educational facilities. The exhibition has improved medical, health care equipment, which help to adopt improved medical care in hospitals”.

Adequate medical facilities are not available in small countries, thus the Government is mulling to popularize medical tourism in our country. As medical facilities is very expensive in developed countries like America promoting medical tourism in India will help in providing healthcare to citizens of poor countries,” he opined

Speaking about health insurance to APL and BPL card holders he said many insurance companies came with proposals of adopting health insurance for APL and BPL card holders in state. But health ministry decided to provide equal insurance scheme with “universal health coverage” package for every family in state. “Even the World Health Organisation has appreciated this scheme and asked me to visit Geneva,” said Khader.

R Rajesh, convener of the expo said that 58 manufacturers of health care equipment of India are displaying the goods. Equipment related to operation theatre, beds, machines and other are on display. The Exhibition will also have a scientific conference and panel discussion. It will be open till December 18.

Dr.V.Surendra Shetty, vice chancellor of Manipal University, Dr.B.Sanjeev Rai, Father Muller Hospita, Dr.Deviprasad S.,organizing secretary of the Expo were present among others.
