Udupi;Dec 07: Under the auspices of Udupi taluk Beedi labour union (AITUC) a protest was staged in front of Bharat Beedi Company’s depot condemning the decision of reduction in works quantity by Bharat Beedi company-one of the prime beedi manufacturers in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district.
Condemning the anti-worker’s attitude by the owner of Beedi Company, protestors said that thousands of Beedi workers, who have solely dependent on Beedi rolling in both the twin districts, have to survive with half meal.
A memorandum was submitted demanding an immediate restoration of reduced quantity of works to owner of the company through depot manager. In the protest Beedi workers shouted slogans.
V.Seetharama Berinja, general secretary of S.K.Beedi worker’s federation, AITUC district president V.Kuckiyan, Vice president B.Shekar and among others spoke in support of protestors.
Ananda Poojary, Union vice president, Ramanna Moolya, Shirva, Somappa Jathanna, general secretary Shashikala Girish took the leadership of protest. Union’s treasurer K.V.Bhat after welcoming, proposed the vote of thanks at the end.
