Mangalore, April 9: Sadananda shetty ,a would be JD( S) official candidate for Mangalore South as declared by H.D.Kumaraswamy-JD(S) State President has withdrawn his candidature even before the start of contest.

Shetty, joined JDS on October 29,2012 amidst much fanfare in the presence of HD Kumaraswamy. It was only a ploy by HD Kumarswamy to admit shetty into the party too woo votes from Bunts community, who are more dominant in the coastal region.

Being an educationist, shetty was also expected to garner votes from Bunts and other communities. It was also expected that shetty would give other candidates from the congress and BJP,a run for their money.

Shetty revealed his decision not to contest the forthcoming elections when contacted. He said in his talk that his age and health do not permit him to take an active role in election, hence he is withdrawing, he said.

Shetty also told that he has already communicated his decision of not contesting to district JDS President M B Sadashiva and higher authorities.

Although shetty has cited that his age and health only impediments him to take an active role, party sources said that his strained relationship with district JDS President Sadashiva has prompted him to take this extreme step.

The relationship soured when leaders like D.M.Aslam, Shashiraj Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty and M G Hegde quit the party in a hurry.

District president should not be self-centric but focus on the party’s growth and JD(S) has no future in the district, unless Sadashiva is relieved from the post of president, as opined by M G Hegde.

Since Sadananda Shetty has withdrawn from the race, JD(S) has been finding it very difficult to find an alternative for the replacement.Noone is keen on becoming the sacrificial lamb, he said.

However Sadashiva Shetty has not at all perturbed by all these developments in the party but expressed his confidence about party’s victory in the ensuing Assembly election.
