Stage set for Sri Ramotsava from April 19

MANGALORE: Sri Ramotsava Samiti here is gearing for successful conduct of Sri Ramotsava for three days at Nehru Maidan for three-days from April 19. The samiti is setting up a temple for Lord Rama measuring 56 feet long, 48 feet wide and a gopura rising 28 feet from the ground and an effigy of Ravana measuring 25 feet high as part of the festivities that will see the effigy of Ravana being burnt on April 21 symbolisingtriumph of good over evil.

Pushparaj Jain, president of the samiti told reporters on Monday that the Samiti has been organising Sri Ramotsava for the past 11-years. Leading cultural and art troupe – Suvarna Arts, Mulki will set up the ‘temple’ that will also have separate ‘garbha gudis’ for Lord Ganapathy and Lord Anjaneya, he said. Religious rituals, religious public meetings and cultural activities will be held as part of the festival, Pushparaj Jain noted.

An attraction of the Sri Ramotsava event is ‘narthana’ bhajan competition for bhajan troupes from Dakshina Kannada on April 19 with the team finishing first will get Rs 10,000, team finishing second Rs 5,000 and third Rs 3,000. Noting that a dozen teams have registered with the organisers so far, Krishna Murthy, honourary advisor of the samiti said interested bhajan troupes may contact 9343201544 and register their names for the event.
