Mangalore, Nov. 21: opposing the display card system implemented by the district administration and the Regional Transport Department and the against the motif of rickshaw rivers and owners, Dakshina Kannada Auto Rickshaw Drivers Association staged a protest in front of DC Office on Nov 21, Thursday.
Addressing the protesters, Sudatta Jain of Akhila Bharata Karmika Sangha said that DK Auto Rickshaw drivers association have been established several years back and solved many problems of auto drivers. But some self elected leaders have planned to introduce the display card system from Jan 1, 2014, which will give the full details of the drivers pasted behind the driver’s seat and they are trying to destroy the unity of the association.
He further said it will also lead several problems to the drivers; hence the association will strictly oppose the display card system.
He also asked to prove the allegation on auto drivers made by some people in real estate, land mafia, illegal land records and other such criminal activities.
Dalit leader Hemanth, Social worker Bhaskar Salian, Former corporator Vinay Chandra, Rama Mugarodi, Suresh Shetty, Ramesh Kotian, Chandappa Bajpe and others were present.
