Udupi: ‘Tenka village panchayat’ becomes the first corruption free panchayat in Udupi district.

 Udupi; Nov 20: As a president of 59th Tenka village panchayat in udupi district by adhering ‘Antaranga and Bahiranga’ (internal and external) I have been engaged in rural development service for the last several years. I am discharging my duties without any corruption.”Let corruption be eradicated and democracy be saved’ said president of Tenka village panchayat Jayashree Harish Kotian.

By handing over testimony in writing (certificate) to Udupi district’s ombudsman Sheena Shetty on Nov 18, Monday, he has a written a preface to Tenka village panchayat in the path of first corruption free panchayat in Udupi district.

All the members of the panchayat have also handed over their testimony in writing (certificate) in the same way on Nov 18, Monday to ombudsman.Rajani, PDO and staffs of the panchayat have also handed over the testimony in writing (certificate) in the same way.

On Nov 19, Tuesday, by being   announced Tenka village panchayat as corruption free panchayat in the ceremony and pledged to work beyond their capacity for the proper implementation of the national employment guarantee scheme and other projects.

In the compound of panchayat, in association with horticulture department under employment guarantee scheme for the nourished plantation of fruits 35 families have been distributed 16 types of plants to one family. Mango, drumstick, lemon, Rambutan, Sapota, coconut, neem etc plants have been given for the cultivation under “Namma Bhoomi, Namma Thota”.Those who received employment letters expressed their happiness. Specialty of this project is members of this panchayat themselves have become beneficiaries of this scheme.

Though this district was lagging behind in the implementation of this scheme, now with the selection of individual beneficiary and by doing self cultivation, the scheme will become successful. It was designed Rs 7000 scheme for one beneficiary,6000 labors and Rs 1000 amenities have reserved. Estimation for the construction of cow sheds for 18 houses has also been approved. The aim of the panchayat is to provide perennial employment to everybody, for those who possess employment letter, said president of the panchayat confidently.

Sadashiva Rao, administrator of horticulture department has assured complete support for the scheme and said that in case of non-availability of the plant, an agreement has been made with Annapurna nursery for the procurement of plants. The department is ready to give good quality plants for the eligible people, he said.

While speaking ombudsman of the national rural employment scheme said that all the 146 village panchayats in Udupi district should emulate Tenka village panchayat’s activities and should become inspiration for the implementation of the scheme, he added.

Further he said that for the unskilled labourers, this scheme has become a boon and should reach to all the eligible people. The Tenka village panchayat with experienced women presidents and development authorities will become a role model in the state.

With the loud proclamation of “Eradicate corruption, save democracy” curtain of the programme has fallen.

Thereafter ombudsman visited Belapu, Palimar panchayat and encouraged the presidents and development authorities of the panchayat to create an atmosphere for the implementation of national rural employment guarantee scheme.

Under Mahatma Gandhi national rural employment guarantee scheme implementation, Miyar’s Munguli Koraga’s garden in Karkala taluk has become a model and an example. He opined that atmosphere of “Namma Bhoomi, Namma Thota”should be created across Udupi district.
