Beltangady, Nov 20: A 23-year-old youth was killed after his bike rammed into Bolero car near Nekkilu on November 20, Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Gowda (23), son of Babi Gowda resident of Kangittilu in Koyyur.
Sources said that Dinesh was on the way to work at Nala near Gerukatte when a Bolero car driven by Balakrishna Poojary, a resident of Baje in Koyyur, rammed into his bike. Dinesh suffered from severe injuries and died on the spot.
As soon as the incident took place, large number of people gathered and started shouting at Balakrishna for the accident. However, Balakrishna escaped from the spot.
Sources said hundreds of people gathered at the spot and damaged the Bolero car. They even protested right in front of Dinesh’s body. The declared that they would not move the body until Balakrishna and higher police officers came to the spot.
When the crowd went out of situation, Police from Beltangady, Venur, Punjalkatte, Uppinangady and Dharmasthala arrived at the spot and had to use lathi to disperse the angry mob.
MLA Vasanth Bangera and Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi of Praja Prabhutva Vedike also tried to console the angry mob. Beltangady police have registered a case.
The locals alleged that it’s murder not an accident
The accident case that took the life of a youngster near Nekkilu here on Wednesday November 20, the Beltangady police have arrested the driver of the Bolero and charged him with murder and rash driving.
The localities were alleged that it’s not an accident it’s a pre planned murder because he had a very close relation with Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi of Praja Prabhutva Vedike and he also took part in all the protest made by Thimarody.
Balakrishna Poojary, who was driving the Bolero, was arrested by the police in the evening and booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 302 (murder) of IPC.
The arrest was made on the complaint filed by Siddappa Gowda of Koyyur.
