Manipal student thrashed & robbed; 4 youths get 10 yrs RI for dacoity

UDUPI: The Udupi session court upheld the conviction of dacoits and sentenced them 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs 10,500 each. A juvenile offender in the case identified as Dhanush has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

On January 22, 2011, the accused Prajwal Saldanha, 24, of Uppur village, Gautham Poojari, 23, of Kalianpura, Ravindra, 25, of Sastana and Chethan Poojary, 21, of Moodubettu had assaulted the complainant Amith Makkar near Hoige Kudru of Moodu Perampalli village in Udupi taluk and robbed cash of Rs 1,000 from him. Ravindra and Gautham Poojari threatened him to part with his ATM card and PIN number.

Prajwal Saldanha and Gautham later snatched the key to Amith’s car and drove it till Santhekatte, where they withdrew Rs 18,000 from his bank account. They later returned the car and the ATM to the complainant.

Judge Narendra Kumar B Gunaki testified the witnesses on Saturday and sentenced them to 10 years of imprisonment. A case was registered in Manipal police station and the charge sheet was filed. Public prosecutor T S Jithuri argued in favour of the prosecution.

  1. These boys if real dacoits would have taken atm card and the car and ran away. But they went back and returned the atm card and car?? Why people dont think there might be some other version of this story from the boys which is not known. Is it our duty just to say yes, good punishment without judging the issue? Is this worth 10 years RI?? and tranform them into real dacoits when they come out of jail.
