Udupi; Nov 11: Though rowdy sheeter Nagaraj Balegara, who was in Mapusa jail in connection with theft case, was to be produced in Udupi court on October 29, Goa police didn’t allow him to be taken from Goa on technical ground.
Therefore rowdy Nagaraj was produced in court on Nov 11, Monday along with his wife Laxmi.He was absconding in Goa after he escaped from the clutches of Kerala police while he was being taken to Udupi from Trisur in connection with a case in which he was the accused on Aug 28.
According to the first body warrant in connection with the murder of Vinod shettigar inside Hiriadka’s sub jail, Nagraj was to be produced in Udupi court on Oct 29 but due to some technical problems, confusion, turmoil and hick ups.he could not be produced on the said date. Now after seeking body warrant for the second time from the court, Udupi police could produce him in court on Nov 11, Monday.
The court sent him to police custody until evening and then he will be handed over to Goa police. Before producing to court a medical test was performed on both of them.
While he was taking refuge in Goa, he committed series of thefs along with his wife and were arrested by the Goa police following police complaint.
According to the sources, both husband and wife have escaped from the lodge, where they have given a room, not pushed police and fled as claimed by the police earlier.
On interrogation, it came to light that couple had taken shelter in Goa, where they were arrested in connection to a theft case. The udupi police brought them back to Udupi from Goa after receiving information.
Nagraj is a noted criminal with over 25 murders, theft and other cases against him in police station of Goa, Karnataka and Kerala. According the information, he has escaped from police at least three times in the past.
