Swami Vivekananda Ratha Receives Grand Welcome at Mangalore

Mangalore, Nov.5: Swami Vivekananda’s Chariot, which was released to mark his 150th birth anniversary all over the state, has reached Mangalore on November 5.

The Ratha Yatra held from June 2013. Its main aim is to spread the noble thoughts of Swami Vivekananda.  The ratha already go through all the taluks of 23 districts including North Karnataka.

The ratha yatra flagged off in front of Mangalore City Corporation, Lalbagh at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 5th. It reached Ramakrishna Math at 11.30am after travelling via M.G. Road-PVS Circle, Bunts Hostel -Jyoti Circle, Bendoorwell – Kankanady, Marnamikatte and Mangaladevi. Students participated in the yatra in large numbers.

J.R. Lobo, MLA, N. Prakash, district commissioner, Shanadi Ajith Kumar Hegde, Mangalore City Corporation commissioner, Swami Tyageeshwaranandaji and Swami Mahavakyanandaji, Ramakrishna Math, Bangalore and members of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore were present.

After the procession a stage programme was held at Ramakrishna Math. Dr. Jeevraj Sorake, director, SCS Hospital inaugurated the programme.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Dr Jeevraj Sorake said, “When we think of the great persons India has given to the world, Swami Vivekananda’s name tops the list.”

Dr Sorake said Swami Vivekananda had trust in youth and he asked them to have faith in themselves. He asked students to build a good character and asked them to consider Vivekananda as their guide and role model.

MLA J R Lobo said, “Even today, his words are apt for youth. He is a role model to the youth of the country. We should read the biography of the saint and try to inculcate at least a few good things in our life which will be one of the biggest gifts we can give him.

Swami Thyageeshwarnandji said that the ‘Viveka Patha’ began on March 13 in Bangalore and so far they have covered 23 districts by organizing various programmes to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

“We should give students that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, as said by Swami Vivekananda 120 years back,” he added.

M B Puranik, president of Sharada Educational Institutions was the chief guest of the programme. Santhosh Alva, lecturer at Alva’s College, Moodbidri, Sri Kamananda Swamiji and Shubhodhaya and others were present.

In the evening a public procession was held at Nehru Maidan at 4.30 p.m. which will move towards Ramakrishna Mutt via Pandeshwar.
