Udupi: Laborers stage protest in crude oil storage unit alleging non-payment of salary by contractors

Udupi; Oct 31 (Kaup-Padubidri): An incident of protest staged on Oct 29, Tuesday by laborers of union government’s ISPRL (Padur crude oil storage unit) alleging the non-payment of salaries by the contractors.

When the discussion about pending salaries, Deepavali bonus and holidays was held, P.Veerabhadra Rao, deputy general manager of ISPRL Company refused to fulfill the demands. Annoyed by this, all the laborers in thousands stopped the work and staged a protest. Due to this several hours of works were completely stopped.

Some of the laborers closed the gate and blocked the movement of vehicles inside the unit by keeping stones on the road.

Devi Prasad Shetty, president JDS district unit, Kutyar village panchayat former president Nityananda Shetty and protestors in thousands,who arrived on the spot and have gone to ISPRL office in protest procession along with the protestors

They discussed with deputy general manager P.Veerabhadra Rao to release the salary immediately and he agreed for that. After protestors pressure, he apologized for his mistake.

Asad Momin,Shirva police superintendent P.Ashok,Ravindran,Sainath shetty,Sharath Kumar Belapu,ISPRL Mazdoor’s general secretary Sharan Kumar Mattu and among others were present.
