Udupi; Oct 24: Addressing the press reporters in the press meet held on Oct 24, Thursday at Pathrika Bhavana, Udupi, Raghupati Bhat, former MLA expressed his resentment over the statement of Pramodh Madhwaraj, MLA that “without my consent, don’t give BPL card and only when I call next time, I will give them the cards in my own hands” and which is condemned.

As result of this system, poor people will have to suffer and being exploited and receipt of BPL cards will get delayed, he opined

Continuing his speech, he said that legislator is distributing BPL cards only for the last 3-4 days in Udupi Vidhana Sabha constituencies and instructed the authorities not to distribute the BPL cards, for those who were absent during card distribution ceremony without his consent.

He also said that in future all the AP, BPL cards should be distributed through village panchayat development authorities or through village accountant like before every week. Besides there was an error in identification of BPL card holders and should ensure that all the eligible families get BPL cards.

He further said that a total of thirteen thousand people are supposed to get ownership letters and must ensure that these letters are given immediately.

During the time of BJP rule in the state, after preparing the  BPL list, when we were about to start giving, Vidhana Sabha elections were declared. However 60 to 65 % list of the BPL card was given. Now only 10-15% of the list should be given. Besides legislator is saying while distributing BPL cards that BPL Cards are his birthday gifts.

If the BPL card distribution system is not being streamlined within one week, all the BPL benefactors of city and rural villages will stage a protest in front of tahsildar’s office, he warned.

This matter has been already informed to DC office after visiting  his office personally and he has agreed for that, he said.
