MANGALORE: A person, who had gone into depression after mowing down a 12 year old child more than a month back, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well near Jayashree Gate here on Monday night. The incident came to light on Tuesday.
The deceased is Valerian Rodrigues (49), a car driver. On February 23, Rodrigues had run over Pooja (12) of Haveri while she was crossing the road near Mangalore Rural Police station.
After that incident, Rodrigues had not attended work. Police said he had also taken to drinking.
The deceased who was living in a rented house at Jayashree Gate had bought a flat near the rented house itself. The house warming of the new house was done on Sunday. The next day, Rodrigues went back to the old house to stay the night. As Rodgrigues did not come home late on Tuesday morning, his son Neil came in search of him and found that his footwear was left near a well. Later fire brigade personnel fished the body out of the well.
