Udupi: Oct 19: After inaugurating the “Krishi Mela-2013” jointly organized by Agricultural and horticulture university, Shimoga on Oct 19, Saturday at Brahmavara region agriculture and horticulture research centre, Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and district in charge said in his address that we have been trying to save Brahmavar sugar factory land out of R 12 crore grant-in-aid sanctioned from the government and thereby saving the sugar factory.
He further said that earlier it was decided to give compensation of Rs 12 thousand to the areca nut farmers, who have incurred more than 50% of loss due to areca nut rotten disease but now are thinking of giving Rs 25 thousand compensation.
Besides work of supplying water to the agricultural lands of the farmers is also under way along with drinking water problem. This is all being done through Netravali Yehtinahole River turning project. Special emphasize is given in chief minister’s budget for the reasonable market price for agricultural products.

The above mentioned matters were the main attractions of the exhibition (Mela).
