Ranya murder – Mulky Police arrest Accused

Mangalore, Oct 19: Mulky police was arrested the accused who murdered Kinnigoli Mohan Ranya, four years back.

The arrested has been identified as Mohammed Asif (26), from Bajpe. The police arrested him at Chikmagalur.

Ranya was killed while he was on way home by some assailants near Moorukaveri in the year 2009 during a communal clash. Investigations had revealed that Ranya was killed just because he was spotted donning a saffron lungi.

Former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, former minister Amarnath Shetty, MLA Abhayachandra Jain and several other leaders visited the family.

Another accused of murder was Isubu from Mudur was already arrested by police in another case, during which, the police learnt that Asif was one of the prime accused in the murder of Mohan Ranya

After the murder, Asif fled abroad. When the police received the information of Asif’s arriving to Chikmagalur, Mulky inspector who along with other officials arrested him at Gadikallu in Koppa.

Asif was produced before the Moodbidri court on Friday October 18 and was sentenced to judicial custody.
