Udupi: Alcoholism is the biggest threat in Koraga community-says MLA

Udupi; Oct 15: Addressing the “Koraga community conference “held under the auspices of Koraga taluk samiti and Koraga welfare Sangha Karnataka-Kerala Vokkoota held on Oct 15, Tuesday at taluk Panchayat Sabha Bhavan, Pramodh Madhwaraj, MLA said in his speech that alcoholism in the community has become the biggest challenge and because of this, superstition and other social related problems keep occurring. People should try to eradicate this social problem first, he said.

He also advised the authorities concerned to visit the place of dwelling of Koraga community and try to solve their problems. The giant scale project has to be prepared for the welfare of the Koraga community people, living under the jurisdiction of Udupi vidhana sabha constituencies. He assured that he will hold discussion with the concerned authorities and made available all the facilities to the community people, he added.

Guruprasad, tahsildar while speaking, informed that there is no need of affidavit to prove the credential of caste in order to avail the facilities from the government. In this connection workers of the Koraga community should bring the problems of the community people to the attention of the concerned authorities to solve the problems.

They are also advised to avail the facilities of the Janaspandana.A comprehensive report on Koraga community people’s life style is under preparation and try to identify the actual benefactors for the distribution of the facilities, he said.

During the occasion, Pramodh Madhwaraj, MLA has taken a prominent lead to eradicate alcoholism in the community for about 500 people by way of organizing Anti-alcohol camps.

Dr.P.V.Bhandary and Kokkarne Koraga community president Bogra Koraga have been felicitated.
