Mangalore, Oct 9: Five persons who were allegedly transporting cattle illegally were caught by the locals and beaten up on Wednesday October 9 near Kudupu Temple.
Three of the five have been identified and they are Abdul Rehman, Sameer and Haneef. They have been admitted to Wenlock Hospital and the condition of one of them is said to be critical.
It is said that the five were travelling in a lorry, when they hit a bike near Kudupu Temple. The bike rider who was injured was taken to hospital, while the lorry sped away.
The locals get angered and chased the lorry and in a bid to escape them the driver lost control over the vehicle and the lorry went off road. On checking the lorry, the locals found 20 cattle inside.
The five who were in the lorry were then thrashed by the public. It is said that they were transporting cattle from north Karnataka in the lorry bearing Udupi registration number.
Kankanady rural police arrived on the spot. The bike rider who was injured has been identified as Santosh.
