D.K District Admin distributes Rs. 1.5 lakh each to the family of the downed children

Mangalore, Oct 8: Dakshina Kannada district administration has distributed relief of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the families of the five who drowned in river Phalguni in Bangra-Kuloor on Sunday.

District in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai who visited the grieving families handed over the cheques behalf of the district administration on Monday Oct. 7.

MLA Moideen Bava urged the CM to provide compensation to the family. Following this, the CM instructed the district administration to release a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the families of the victims from natural calamities relief fund.

Farmer MLA Vijaya Kumar Shetty, corporate Shashidhar Hegde, Ashok Kumar D K, Abruvar, Thahashildar Mohan Rao were present at the occasion.

About the incident:

The deceased are Yakshit (15), Rakshit (16), Kalandar (16), Prajwal S (15) and Rajesh (16), residents of Kodikalkatte. While the dead bodies of four have been traced on the same of tragedy, body of Yakshit was retrieved on Tuesday at Bengre.

A total of 8 boys had come to Bangra-Kulur area to play, of whom, Yakshit ventured into the river to clean himself. Soon he was pulled in by the current. When he cried for help the rest four plunged to rescue him but they also drawn in the water.

Yakshith and Rakshith were Realtives:

Yakshith and Rakshith were relatves. Rakshith had lost his father five years ago and his mother Ranjani is looking after him. Rakshith was studying at Ganapathi High School.

Yakshith’s father had abandoned them a year ago and he also being looked after by his mother Meena. Yakshith was studying at Milagres School.

The last rites of Rakshith have not been performed as the families are waiting for the dead body of Yakshith.

Today Kalander’s Birthday:

Kalandar is son of Hasanabba and Zeenath couple. Today Oct.8th is his Birthday. Kalandar has three sisters and one brother, and being the eldest; Kalandar was going to be the bread winner of the family within few years. His father is a fish vendor.

The family background of all the five deceased is almost the same. All of them came from humble background. Prajwal’s parents are daily wage workers but both of them are not in a position to work due to health reasons.
