Harsh Gupta says the service will be strengthened by employing more people
People can pass on information about violation of election model code of conduct by calling 1077, a toll free number. The number can also be used to reach Deputy Commissioner or any other top district officer and convey the information or the complaint.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, the new Deputy Commissioner, Harsh Gupta, said the service would be strengthened by employing more people to handle multiple queries 24X7. “Apart from election-related issues, the number can also be used for other queries,” said Mr. Gupta
Mr. Gupta said some innovative practices were being put in place for monitoring elections, but refused to elaborate.
Mr. Gupta said he wanted to enforce model code of conduct in a systematic way. Keeping a tab on election expenditure of candidates, carrying out video surveillance and maintaining shadow accounts of each of the candidates, he said, will be the priority.
Mr. Gupta said he was yet to get orders from the Election Commission transferring officials who have been in the district for more than three years. The orders will cover officers on election duty, including those from the Revenue and the Police departments, he said.
Mr. Gupta said special drives under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme would be conducted in naxal-prone areas to ward off any possible threats to voters.
Voters’ list revision till April 7
Applications for inclusion, deletion and alteration in the voters’ list have to be submitted by April 7.
Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta urged people, who have multiple entries on the list, to rectify the error. “Criminal action can be taken against a voter for multiple entries,” he said. Mr. Gupta said he would examine the facilities available at the two helpdesks set up for revising voters’ list at M.G. Road and Kadri. — Staff Correspondent
