Ramnath Rai Inaugurates the International Senior Citizens Day

Mangalore, Oct. 1: International Senior Citizens’ Day was jointly celebrated by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child Welfare Department, Mangalore Senior Citizens Association and Self Help Groups at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Bajjodi on October 1, Tuesday.

District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural speech he directed the youngsters to take good care of their aged parents. He also stressed that the parents should be treated well in their old age.

He further said that the government is running some old age homes and providing pension of Rs 500 per month.  This year, government has sanctioned Rs 7 lakhs instead of Rs 3 lakhs in the budget

VT Shenoy, President of Mangalore Senior Citizens’ Association, submitted a memorandum to the minister. Veigas, President of Women and Child Welfare Department, Dr Olinda Pereira and Sr Josphine and others were present on the occasion.
