Udupi: ‘Employment guarantee Scheme ‘ should be undertaken on priority basis-says minister Patil

Udupi; Sept 18: Addressing the gathering in the officials meet held on September 16, Monday evening at district panchayat office, H K Patil, Grameena Abhivriddhi and Panchayatraj minister said in his address that rural people must be thoroughly educated about the works, which can be undertaken under national employment guarantee scheme and make it more effective.

He further said that there is an opportunity even for self-employment projects under employment guarantee project. Leveling of agricultural fields, construction of a high raised bank in fields, protective wall and other works, can be done through employment guarantee scheme. By providing more information about the project more laborers should be utilized under employment guarantee scheme, he added.

Works on high demand and more useful to public should be undertaken immediately. Authorities only should visit the places in rural areas wherever necessary and find out the works, which can be carried out. Construction of children’s playing ground, crematorium, burial ground and other works should be carried out by utilizing local Yuva Sanghas.

He also said that India’s employment guarantee project is a unique and special project in the world. The people can earn by working in their own fields also and project’s work should be carried out every day of the year continuously, he added

Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and district in charge said in his speech that about employment guarantee project, by giving more publicity in village meets. Rural people must be informed about the project and its benefits. In this regard. Minister suggested that , taluk panchayat responsible authorities and PDOs should hold frequent meetings and review the situation. Due to heavy rains this year, rural roads have been damaged beyond repair and minister has requested H.K Patil to release special grant-in-aid for the repair of damaged roads.

While speaking Jayaprakash Hegde, MP said in his speech that there is more need of advanced technology to repair the roads in coastal and mountain, hilly regions.

Upendra Nayak, President of zilla Panchayat said in his speech that the fund what we are getting from the government for each kilo meter of the maintenance of roads in the district is very less and he has requested the minister to increase the amount.
