Mangalore,sep.12 : A UGC sponsored National Seminar on “Effective Partnerships Between Commercial Banks and Micro-Finance Institutions” in association with Corporation Bank-HO, Mangalore, organized by Besant First Grade Evening College was inaugurated 12 September the college  auditorium.

The seminar was inaugurated by Chief Guest Karthikeyan V S-, General Managerof Corporation Bank. In his inaugural address, Karthikeyan said, According to Former President of India,Abdul Kalam, India will emerge as the top three countries in the world in 2020. For that youth participation is very much needed in building this nation. Although India is independently free, but financially it is not. The value of rupee is deteriorating day by day against the dollar. Prices of commodities are going up everyday-people are borrowing money from finance lenders paying high interests”

India can surely grow in the years to come, because this country has enormous resources, intelligent young generation so that India can emerge as world’s top country through active involvement of the youth in building this nation”

The seminar has three Technical Sessions, “Potential of Commercial Banks as large-Scale Providers of Finance “, “ Sustainability and Pitfalls of Existing Micro-Finance Institutions” and ” Building Effective Partnerships between Banks and Micro-Finance Organizations

Dr A Krishna Reddy,Consultant of Sa-dhan(Apex Body of Micro-Finance Sector) Hyderabad and also the key-note speaker; guest of honor-Nagar Narayan Shenoy, Correspondent, Besant Evening College, Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy-President of Women’s National Education Society; seminar convener-Prof. Ishwar Poojary were present.  College principal Dr Carmelita Goveas.welcomed the gathering.
