Social welfare department hostels are in good condition: M. Shivanna

Mangalore, August 24:’ In Dakshina Kannada social welfare department managing hostels are good in condition, when compare to others states and other districts of the state’, opined National Scheduled caste commission member M. Shivanna.

He was speaking after checking the different facilities to SC through constitution at Deputy Commissioner Office on Friday.


District social welfare Officer Arun Purtado said that there are 32 hostels managing by social welfare department, 2615 students are taking the benefit of it and 2018 students can get the opportunity. 30 hostels are having own building of the department and in the 2012- 13, 191 students attended the SSLC exam from the hostel. In that 161 students got passed and 84.29 percent of result came out, he said.

‘52 students are attended the PUC exam, in that 48 students are passed and 92 percent of result came out’, he added.


Meanwhile, Shivanna Said that English and maths becoming toughest to the students, hence, he ordered to provide the tuition facility along with good bed and covers to the students.

National SC commission state unit director P. Girija, associate director Sheelanarayana swami, DC N. Prakash, Zilla Panchayat CEO Thulasi Maddineni and SP Abhishek Goel were present.
