Karkala; August 11: It has been reported from Neerebailur that after cutting the valuable and costly woods from the government land and was being illegally transported. It was on August 09, Friday late night when the woods were being transported illegally in a tempo, the officials from the forest department seized the tempo along with woods and took it under their custody.
Sources said that since the tyres of the tempo stuck in the slush, the incident came to light. The occupants of the tempo were hiding.
Sources also said that complaints have been receiving from the locals about the looting of woods in the area since long time but no action has been taken by the concerned authorities in this regard.
Under the guidance of K V Subramanya Rao, Forest official from Karkala zone and under the leadership of Babu of Bailur deputy forest official, forest protectors Ganesh, Krishnappa, Ananda, Anwar etc have participated in the operation.
Around Rs 50,000 worth woods and Rs 4 lac value Tempo have been taken under custody and they are looking for the people who have been gone hiding.
