Mangalore: Illegal gas refilling unit & cylinders seized in the police raid

Mangalore, Jul 26: Mangalore rural police and tahsildar raided a house in Garodi and arrested a man who was illegally selling the gas, here on Friday, according the sources.

The accused has been identified as Taranath (50), who was refilling gas cylinders which he planned to sell for a price lower(Rs 490) than market value (Rs 520.). Under the operation was carried  by tahsildar Shivappa Lamani and Mangalore rural police  seized 16 cylinders of 15.6 kg and 14.2 kg each, 22 cylinders each weighing 5 kg, three HP motors, two weighing scales and five empty cylinders and the cylinders belonged to Indane Gas and Bharat Gas companies.

According tahsildar Lamani, police had received information about Taranath’s illegal cylinder business; hence his house raided by the department. Sources says his illegal business might have running from past two or three years and he had 13 gas connections in his name and an inquiry will be done by roping in the food and civil supplies department which would have issued the connections. However, accused said that he had been doing this illegal business from 7 to 8 months.

He further said that his business was not only illegal but also dangerous. The neighbours or locals should have informed the police, but they did not do so and it shows public carelessness” he added.
