Prabhakar Shriyan elected as IRCS new chairman.

Mangalore: IRCS DK unit Managing Committee Member Prabhakar Shriyan has been elected as the new chairman, at a meeting held under the presidency of Deputy Commissioner N Prakash. 

Shriyan, who runs a small scale industry, is also the Vice President of Mahathma Gandhi Peace Foundation and President of the Mangalore taluk unit of Bharat Seva Dal and former Member of MUDA (Mangalore Urban Development Authority).

The new IRCS district President Prabhakar Shriyan reviewed the running of new blood bank of the IRCS at Lady Goshen hospital and also reviewed the activities of different sub committees. The meet also resolved to construct one more floor to the “Red Cross Bhavan” located at Deputy Commissioner’s office premises and building committee would be headed by Managing Committee Member, advocate Santhosh Peter D’Souza. Advocate and Managing Committee Member Shashiraj Kavoor have been elected as the new Treasurer and Ronald Anil Fernandes elected as the chairman for the Blood Bank subcommittee on the occasion.

Fisheries Department Deputy Director and IRCS Honorary Secretary Suresh Kumar were present.

Blood bank :

The IRCS blood bank located at Lady Goshen hospital premises provides the blood free of cost to BPL card holders (even without replacement), while it would charge only Rs 350 for whole human blood as against Rs 700 to Rs 750 being charged by private hospitals (with replacement).
Besides the whole human blood, the Red Cross also provides Packed Red Cells (Rs 600).
Meanwhile, the Red Cross is also planning to procure a component separator following which the blood bank would be able to provide Fresh Frozen Plasma, Frozen Plasma and Platelet Concentrate.
