21 Malekudiya youth will be appointed as guards-says SP

Mangalore, July 19: Addressing the media personnel in the press meet held at SP’s office on July 19,Friday, DK,SP Abhishek Goyal said in his address that 21 youths from the tribal Malekudiya community will be recruited as home guards for the districts for a period of one year.

He further said that this scheme in fact is not funded by home ministry but it is part of the scheme undertaken by deputy commissioner’s office. In this regard we had a detailed discussion on September, 2012. Rs 10 lac out of Rs 19.5 lac for six months has already been sanctioned.

Sources said that these youths will work under Dakshina Kannada police and training will be provided in the beginning of joining for one month and they will be start working effective from August 1st,he added.

SP also informed that tribal youth, mostly from Belthangady, Kadaba, Sullia and uppinangady will be appointed and police department is going to search for eligible tribal youth, he added.

He clarified that these tribal youth will be trained for traffic management and will not be used for naxal and crime related issues and enjoy all the benefits given to the home guards.

The selection procedure is as per the required standards of home guards and they should have any criminal background and will be paid Rs 250 per day

Besides, he also said that the district has been facing the ‘worst police – population ratio’ in comparison to the other small districts. “With this recruitment, our work load will be lessened,” he said.
