Two accused in Moodbidri idols theft case sent to judicial custody

Mangalore, July 17: Mangalore police in co-ordination with Bhubaneswar, Odisha police have arrested two people in connection with idols theft from Moodbidri Jain Basadi and brought to Mangalore on July 17.

The accused have been identified as Diptimayee Mohanty (aged 23) wife of prime accused in theft case Santhosh Das alias Ghanshyam and Digambar Mohanty (aged 59) father-in-law of Santhosh.

These two accused have been arrested on charges of abetment as they declined to disclose the whereabouts of prime accused Santhosh, who is absconding.

There both were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody till July 30.

Sources said that Digambar is a class IV employee attached to the urban development of the government of Odisha.

It was also said that during the time of raid conducted in Bhubaneswar by the police, they found one kg of gold at Santhosh’s house along with the idols stolen from the Moodbidri Jain Basadi. At least15 idols made of gold and encrusted with pearls, precious stones and diamonds have been stolen on July 5th from Jain temple.
