Puttur, January 01: The Puttur police took 20 people from a prayer centre to the police station on the night of Thursday December 31st in order to avoid a raid on the centre that was reportedly planned by a right-wing outfit.
It is learnt, the police went to the Believers Church of India (BCI) prayer centre at Jodukatte on the night of Thursday December 31st and rounded up 20 people and took them away.
As per the sources, the police had got information that a right-wing group claiming allegations of conversion had planned to attack the said prayer centre. To avoid any possible problem, the police went to the spot and took 20 people to the police station as a protective measure, said the sources. It is learnt that, some of the people included coolie workers.
The authorities of BCI prayer centre explained that people had gathered at the centre only to participate in New Year’s prayer and no other activities were going on there, it is gathered.
Later on all the 20 people were released by the police and no case was registered, it is said.
