Road widening works in the city: Several trees being cut down at Valencia.

Mangaluru, December 23: Several trees were felled along the stretch from Valencia to Nandigudda circle in the city on Tuesday December 22nd for the purpose of widening the road as per the directions of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).

It is said, about 48 trees along the stretch from Fatima Retreat House will be removed. The forest department has granted permission to the MCC to remove the trees with the condition that saplings will be planted in their place. From a few days, the road widening works of this stretch is going on from junction near Father Muller’s Hospital here.

MCC Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred speaking to the media said, the trees are being cut for the purpose of widening the road. The clearance has been obtained from the forest department and the concrete road will be widened till the Mannagudda circle, she said.

Speaking to the media, the District Forest Officer Hanumanthappa, has confirmed the same matter.
